Former Ilocos Sur Governor Chavit Singson announced on Sunday that he is dropping out of the Senate race for the upcoming national and local elections. He made the decision after careful thought, explaining that he needed to focus on his health.
During a speech at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Singson shared his reasons for stepping down from the race. “After much thought, I have decided that I will no longer continue with my Senate candidacy. I don’t want to push through if it will affect my health,” he said.
Singson revealed that he had been receiving treatment for pneumonia and still needs time to rest. Despite this, he expressed gratitude for the love and support his supporters had shown. “I feel your love and continued support for me. With your overwhelming support, I knew in my heart that I have already won,” he said.
Although he is no longer running for Senate, Singson promised to continue helping transport groups by providing electric vehicles. The “Magnificent 7” transport group had supported his candidacy, as he had pledged to supply them with modern public utility vehicles (PUVs). Singson had also offered to help those in need by providing them with bank accounts.
Singson’s decision to step down shows that he is prioritizing his health while still aiming to support his community in other ways.
