Cassius, the World’s Largest Captive Crocodile, Passes Away in Australia

SYDNEY – Cassius, a huge crocodile that was 5.48 meters long and held the title for the largest crocodile in captivity, has passed away, according to the wildlife sanctuary where he lived. He was believed to be over 110 years old.

Marineland Melanesia Crocodile Habitat shared on Facebook that Cassius had been unwell since October 15. They said, “He was very old and lived longer than most wild crocodiles.”

Cassius was a saltwater crocodile who weighed more than a ton. He lived at the sanctuary since 1987 after being moved from the Northern Territory, where crocodiles attract many tourists.

The sanctuary posted, “Cassius will be deeply missed, but we will always remember the love and memories we shared with him.”
