The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) wants everyone to know: the Vice President’s special security team is NOT gone. They just made a few changes to make it better.
On Saturday, the AFP shared a clear message. They said the Vice Presidential Security and Protection Group (VPSPG) is now called the AFP Security and Protection Group (AFPSPG). It’s not disbanded—it’s been reorganized, or in simpler words, they rearranged things to work better.
Why the change?
The AFP said, “We did this to make sure the Vice President always has strong and nonstop protection. By combining teams and making things more organized, it’s now safer and more efficient.”
In short, the Vice President is still very much protected, and now the team is stronger and smarter in how it works.
The AFP also asked everyone to be careful about what they say and share online or in person. They don’t want people spreading fake news or rumors that can cause fights or confusion.
“Let’s all work together and use social media and other tools to share peace, truth, and understanding,” the AFP said.
They also reminded everyone that they are 100% committed to keeping the Vice President and other top government leaders safe.
Did you know?
Before June 2022, there was no special military group just for the Vice President. Back then, their safety was handled by a unit from the main headquarters of the AFP. The VPSPG was only formed in 2022, and now they’ve improved it again with this new structure.
The AFP ended their statement by saying this new setup is the best and most effective way to protect the country’s Vice Presidents—now and in the future.
