Abused OFW in Saudi Saved After Employer’s Son Attacks

In Saudi Arabia, a Filipina worker named “Rose” faced a terrifying ordeal while working as a domestic helper. She began her job in February 2024, but just a few months later, in May, her nightmare started. While her employers were away on a business trip, their son assaulted her. Rose bravely fought back but was overpowered. Terrified by his threats, she kept the abuse a secret for a month.

Rose was warned by the son that if she told anyone, she could end up dead or in jail in Saudi Arabia. Feeling trapped, she reached out to her recruitment agency in the Philippines, but they told her she had to wait for 2-3 months for help. Desperate, she decided to confess the abuse to her employers. Instead of helping her, they took away her passport and ID (iqama), making it even harder for her to escape.

In July, the son attacked her again. By then, she had been suffering for five long months without proper help. Running out of options and feeling hopeless, Rose contacted GMA Integrated News, pleading for rescue.

“I can’t handle it anymore. I keep thinking about what’s happening here. I just want to be rescued,” Rose cried out.

Thankfully, her plea for help was heard. The Department of Migrant Workers acted quickly and rescued Rose. She was taken to a police station, where she finally felt safe.

“Thank you so much for saving me,” Rose said with relief. “I’m now at the police station and I know I’m safe. I just hope everything goes well from here.”

The Department of Migrant Workers Secretary, Hans Leo Cacdac, promised to fight for justice for Rose, making sure her painful experience would not be ignored. Rose’s bravery and resilience shine as she takes the first steps toward rebuilding her life.
