Pumanaw sa edad na 77 nitong Martes si Rosalio “Yoyong” Martires, na dating Pinoy Olympian, Pasig City vice mayor, at naging artista rin.
“Masakit. Mabigat. Mahirap. Pero, tatanggapin ang bukas. Mahal kita Pa,” saad sa post ng anak ni Yoyong na si Pasig City councilor Maro Martires.
May hiwalay na post din ang anak na babae ni Yoyong na si Leah kaugnay sa pagpanaw ng kaniyang ama.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Rosalio “Yoyong” D. Martires. He has peacefully joined our Creator yesterday, June 18, 2024. He was surrounded by his family and loved ones during this difficult time,” saad ni Leah sa caption ng post.
“He lived a very adventurous and colorful life. A loving husband, a doting father, a caring grandpa, a self-made man, an Olympian, a prolific basketball player, a comedian, a devoted public servant, and a child of Christ. Difficult steps to follow, indeed. You served God, our country, and your fellow men. Rest in Peace, papa. We love you!,” patuloy niya.
Ang Barangay San Miguel sa Pasig City, nag-post din ng pagpupugay para kay Yoyong na tinawag nila na, “extraordinary leader who dedicated his life to serving the people and making our city a better place.”
“Konsi Yoyong Martires was a remarkable individual who left an indelible mark on our community. His passion for public service, unwavering commitment, and tireless efforts have inspired generations of leaders and touched countless lives. Throughout his tenure, he worked diligently to address the needs and concerns of our fellow Pasigueño, always striving to create positive change and foster a sense of unity,” saad pa sa post.
Naging bahagi si Yoyong ng Philippine basketball team sa 1972 Olympics sa Munich. Naglaro rin siya sa PBA para sa koponan ng San Miguel Beermen.
Naging vice mayor siya ng Pasig City mula 2004 hanggang 2013, at konsehal mula 1995 hanggang 2004 at 2013 hanggang 2022.
Napanood din siya sa ilang pelikula at programa sa telebisyon bilang isang komedyante. —FRJ, GMA Integrated News
