MANILA, Philippines — The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) issued a yellow alert for the Luzon grid Monday as power supply remains low because several power plants are under forced outages.
NGCP said the Luzon grid will be under yellow alert from 2 p.m.- 4 p.m., and from 7 p.m.-10 p.m.
The Visayas and Mindanao grids are operating at normal conditions.
A yellow alert is issued when the operating margin is not enough to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement.
NGCP said that two plants have been on forced outage since last year, two between January and March 2024, and 12 others between April and May 2024. Meanwhile, six power plants are running on reduced capacities, leaving the grid lacking 2,692.8 megawatts.
