Aktor PH, a collective group of Filipino actors whose Board of Directors include Dingdong Dantes and Piolo Pascual, spoke out on the incident concerning Eva Darren at the recently concluded FAMAS Awards 2024.
In the statement, Aktor PH expressed dismay at how FAMAS overlooked Darren on Sunday evening during the awarding ceremony, saying such gatherings should be “a moment of celebration extending beyond mere victory and trophies.”
“It is ironic that the event last Sunday, which was supposed to honor the iconic pillars of the country, was marred by an unfortunate incident that happened to one of our respected and beloved peers during a celebration with industry members at one of the oldest award-giving bodies,” Aktor PH said.
“We are deeply saddened by the seeming lapse in the management of the program,” it added.
The collective group of actors also said, “Now, more than ever, it is crucial to safeguard and honor the Filipino film industry, restoring both respect and authenticity to its events.”
“AKTOR, the League of Filipino Actors, extends its warmest support and solidarity to Ms. Eva Darren,” concluded the statement, which was released Tuesday afternoon.
Darren recently made headlines when her son, Dr. Fernando de la Pena, expressed his disappointment at the award-giving for replacing her mom as a presenter without prior notice.
The FAMAS organization quickly addressed the issue by offering their apologies and intent to make amends. De la Pena warmly accepted through a social media post.
The 72nd edition of the FAMAS Awards honored Piolo and Alfred Vargas, Kathryn Bernardo, Gloria Diaz, and Kapuso couple Dingdong and Marian Rivera.
