TAINAN, Taiwan — Portuguese sailors once noted that the island they spotted, which is now called Taiwan, as Ilha Formosa or beautiful island in Portuguese.
It is a name that lives up to its reputation to this day as the nation just above the Philippines remains a beautiful country in any season, especially come around springtime when flowers are abloom.
Tainan, its old capital, is home to a famous road known for its fiery kapok trees that when their flowers are in full bloom provide a canopy of bright, red-orange flowers extending from the branches of trees neatly lined along the road.
It is no wonder that locals and tourists alike drop to the Baihe district of Tainan just to take a photo with the trees as their groupie or selfie backdrop.
It could definitely be a setting for a romance series or flick like the Korean drama “Endless Love.”
Also in Tainan, tourist buses go in and out of Arwin Therapy Garden.
In this garden, roses of every color, from the immaculate white, dainty yellows, pretty pinks to purplish blooms, are neatly planted in three types of gardens.
Roses arranged in symmetry featuring stone works are found in the French-style Rose Garden. Those who wish to medidate and do aromatherapy can spend a minute or two in Chakra Rose Garden.
The Classical Rose Garden has roses and benches for visitors to sit on, while also enjoying the view of a passing train.
