The Metro Manila Council (MMC) on Friday approved a resolution temporarily halting the charging of any fees for delivery vehicles in locally funded roads.
According to a report on “24 Oras,” the MMC will immediately implement the resolution in support of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s call for the suspension of pass-through fees as stated under Executive Order (EO) No. 41.
MMC president and San Juan Mayor Francis Zamora said that while new policy will affect the revenue of local government units (LGUs), it will help the transporting public by possibly easing the prices of commodities.
Meanwhile, Interior Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr. suggested amending the Local Government Code which gives the LGU the taxing power.
Abalos said the law is outdated and should adapt to the country’s current situation.–Sundy Locus/LDF, GMA Integrated News
