‘Jenny’ weakens, exits PH

ALTHOUGH storm alerts remain over some areas in Northern Luzon, Typhoon “Jenny” has exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), the state-run weather agency said on Friday.

In a 5 p.m. bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Signal No. 2 is still up over the northern portion of Batanes (Itbayat).

Signal No. 1 is up over the rest of Batanes, Babuyan Islands, northern portion of Apayao (Calanasan and Luna), northwestern portion of Cagayan (Pamplona, Sanchez-Mira, Claveria, Santa Praxedes and Abulug), and the northern portion of Ilocos Norte (Pagudpud, Adams, Dumalneg, Bangui, Burgos, Pasuquin and Vintar) in Luzon.

Estimated some 275 kilometers west-northwest of Itbayat (outside PAR), the typhoon is moving at 15 kilometers per hour (kph) with maximum sustained winds of 140kph near the center and gustiness of up to 170kph, the bulletin said.

Although outside PAR, Pagasa said the typhoon will continue to enhance the southwest monsoon (“habagat”) which will bring light to moderate rains over the western portions of Luzon.

“The enhancement of habagat by Jenny will bring gusty conditions for the next three days over areas not under any wind signal especially in coastal and upland/mountainous areas exposed to winds,” according to the latest advisory.

Also, a gale warning is still in effect for the coastal waters along the northern and western seaboards of Northern Luzon, it added.
