More than 1,000 motorists were flagged down along Commonwealth Avenue on the first day of the full implementation of the exclusive motorcycle lane in Quezon City, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said Monday.
According to the MMDA, it flagged down a total of 1,238 motor vehicles as of noon on March 27, 2023. Of the vehicles pulled over, 482 were motorcycles and 757 were private cars.
“Nasa kabuuang 1,238 na mga motorista ang nahuli mula umaga hanggang ngayong tanghali ng unang araw ng full implementation ng exclusive motorcycle lane sa kahabaan ng Commonwealth Avenue sa bahagi ng Elliptical Road hanggang Do?a Carmen at vice versa,” the MMDA said on Facebook.

The MMDA said the exclusive motorcycle lane is located on the third lane from the sidewalk along Commonwealth Avenue. It aims to reduce motorcycle-related road crashes and ensure smooth traffic flow.
Violators would be fined P500.
The 11-day pilot testing for the motorcycle lane program was extended until March 26, 2023, to give way to the patching work by the Department of Public Works and Highways and to provide more time for motorists to be familiar with the policy.
The pilot testing was initially slated from March 9 to March 19, with its full implementation to begin on March 20. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
