The city of Manila announced on Saturday that asynchronous classes will be implemented in all public schools and all levels in the city from March 6 to 11 due to the upcoming transport strike.
In an advisory, Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna also encouraged the private schools to switch to online classes during this period.
Meanwhile, several Metro Manila schools earlier announced that they will shift to online classes from March 6 to 11, amid the weeklong transport strike to protest the public utility vehicles (PUV) modernization program.
Despite the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) decision to extend the deadline for jeepney operators to join or form cooperatives to December 31, 2023, the weeklong transportation holiday will push through.
This was to express their opposition to the government’s modernization program, which aims to replace traditional jeepneys with vehicles powered by more environment-friendly fuels.–LBG, GMA Integrated News
