The Syrian government is seeking assistance and donations from the Philippines following the massive earthquakes that killed thousands in Syria and Turkey earlier this month.
According Sam Nielsen’s report on Super Radyo dzBB, the Syrian Arab Republic Embassy said donations can be coursed through the Philippine Red Cross which will serve as a collection site.
The country is seeking donations from local charitable foundations and non-government organizations such as medicines, blankets, winter clothes, and tents which may be forwarded to the PRC Headquarters in Mandaluyong.
This comes after a magnitude 7.8 earthquake hit Syria and Turkey on February 6, and another magnitude 6.4 hit the country on February 20.
The death toll in both countries has risen to more than 50,000.
For his part, PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Richard Gordon said the agency is coordinating with the Syrian Embassy for donations.
Syria had made an earlier appeal for help, to which the government responded it will send monetary donations to the war-torn nation.
The Philippines has sent a humanitarian team to neighboring Turkey to aid in rescue and relief efforts. The team is set to return to the Philippines on March 1. — BM, GMA Integrated News
