Over a hundred people were affected by waist-deep floods in the town of Matalam, Cotabato, with some locals having to be rescued by boat while others chose to wait for the waters to recede.
According to Jonathan Andal’s GTV News Live report, the water level in Barangays Manubuan, Poblacion, Malamote, and Taculen started to rise at 3 a.m. on Saturday.
Several motorists were also stranded as the water surged along the Cotabato-Davao Road due to the rain caused by a low-pressure area (LPA).
As of 10 a.m., PAG-ASA reported that the LPA was east-northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur. Although it was not expected to become a typhoon, rain was still expected over the Bicol and Eastern Visayas Regions, as well as over Mindanao.
According to NDRRMC’s latest report, 20 people have died due to inclement conditions caused by the LPA, a shear line, and the Amihan.— Sherylin Untalan/DVM, GMA Integrated News
